I recently finished a fun project, a custom ring for a woman who had a large and plump pear-shaped amethyst that she was looking to set into a ring. The stone was a gift from her mother, and she’d had it for a while while she decided how she wanted to use it. Because of the stone’s non-standard size, I knew I’d need to make a custom setting for it. The customer liked the look of bezel-set stones, so we started there. We decided to set the stone with the point of the pear facing sideways, for a more non-traditional look. And the woman had indicated that she wanted the ring to look a little like another ring that I’d made, with a twisted-vine pattern in the band.

The resulting ring was done in 14 karat white gold. I like the look of it.
